Recipe Flurry

Whew! After several weeks of organizing, more than one hundred recipes have been added to the collection at Food Fare.

New categories include: Australian, Canadian, English, French, Malagasy, Mexican, Monegasque, Polish, Russian, Spanish and Swedish.

It was no small feat to gather the old bones and edit the whole lot. Many of the recipes have been in my database for more than a decade, but it was still tough to pick and choose, or pick and discard. Some of them will probably find their way into the upcoming electronic cookbook as well.

One of my favorites is a simple little gem known as Pets de Soeurs. It's been in my mother's family for several generations. The assembly and consumption thereof couldn't be easier:

Pets de Soeurs

Leftover pastry/pie shell dough

Butter

Brown sugar

If you have any leftover strips of dough from making a pie shell, combine them together and form another ball of dough. Roll out dough on a floured surface. Spread butter over the dough, and then sprinkle on brown sugar. Roll the dough as you would an egg roll; slice the roll into 1/4" or 1/2" pieces. Place on a greased cookie sheet (with space between); bake at 350-degrees F for ten minutes on one side. Flip pieces over and bake for another ten minutes. Baking times may vary, so keep an eye on the little rolls. They are done when all sides are a golden brown.

The recipe is included in the Canadian collection at Food Fare.

My mother made me swear on pain of death not to reveal the English translation for "Pets de Soeurs."

Go figure.
