Seasonal Bits:

Deep into a cold winter, there is nothing more comforting or satisfying than a hot beverage.

Beverages

Hot Spiced Chai Tea, Mexican Hot Chocolate and Wassail are three of my favorite treats. For every day, I make-do with Coffee-Mate laden coffee or hot black tea with cream.

Give this belly-warming recipe a whirl:

Hot Buttered Rum

1 tsp. brown sugar

1/4 C boiling water

1/4 C dark rum

1 TBS butter

Nutmeg

Place all of the ingredients in a hot tumbler or large mug. Mix well. Sprinkle nutmeg on top, and serve at once.

New Year greetings from Food Fare...

Welcome to Food Fare and the fourth edition of our newsletter, Food Fare Notes.

I'm quite content in the midst of winter. There was a lot of baking in my house during the holiday season, recounted on Appetizing Muse. Needless to say, we were overrun with Pumpkin Cookies, Classic Shortbread, Peanut Butter Cookies, and Zucchini Bread.

There was plenty to go around. Nothing says a neighborly "Merry Christmas" better than a colorfully wrapped gift of home-cooked goodness.

In the evenings I like to retire to my computer, hot tea in hand, where I fiction-write into the wee hours of the morning. Is it any wonder I take a short cat-nap every afternoon nowadays?

Thanks for stopping by Food Fare, and Happy New Year....

Food Fare Recipes

Some of the recipes to be found at Food Fare come from the culinary articles, but there is a large number that come from Shenanchie, her friends and family, and other sources. The collection has grown over many years and presents an enticing display of various comfort foods, as well as long-held traditional dishes and a simply marvelous array of surprising little food gems.

Many of the recipes also have extra bits of information, such as origin and locality, as well as links to more about specific ingredients in the dishes. We had some fun creating the Halloween Recipes, adding "spooky" animated graphics with black backgrounds. When a recipe comes from a particular country, we try to fit something about their culture into the web background of the recipe page. For an example, we used a muted thistle background for the collection of Scottish Recipes. Sounds fun, no? Get some recipes >

Don't forget about our selection of food articles, such as in-depth pieces about artichokes, avocados, garlic, hot dogs, mushrooms, ravioli, tamales, and more. More Food Articles >
