Brandied Hot Chocolate
1 liter (4 C) whole milk
3/4 C dark chocolate, broken into small pieces
2 TBS brown sugar
5 TBS brandy
2 tsp. ground cinnamon (or to taste)
Garnish:
6 TBS whipped cream
4 tsp. cocoa powder or ground cinnamon
Cinnamon stick (optional)
Gently heat the milk in a large saucepan; remove from heat when milk begins to boil. Place dark chocolate pieces in a small pan; add two tablespoons of the warm milk. Stir over low heat until chocolate melts. Add to warm milk mixture; stir well. Add the brown sugar, cinnamon and brandy; mix well to combine. Pour into tall heatproof glasses or mugs; top with a dollop of whipped cream and lightly dust with cocoa powder or cinnamon. Serve with a cinnamon stick.
