Most Americans with Irish roots typically prepare corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's Day dinner, but rarely at any other time during the year. I've never been one to go along with tradition just for the sake of it, so I tend to prepare and serve corned beef several times during the course of any given year - with no slight to the Irish intended.
On a surprising note, corned beef and cabbage is not a typical meal in an Irish household. This dish is more of an "Americanism" for the purpose of celebrating St. Patrick's Day. In Ireland, dinner will likely consist of ham or roast lamb, vegetables, potatoes cooked in their jackets, and warm from-the-oven soda bread with plenty of butter. One of the most popular dishes is Bacon & Cabbage with potatoes.
In reality, St. Patrick's Day in Ireland is more of a religious holiday which celebrates the life and teachings of St. Patrick.
Food Fare offers a selection of Irish Recipes, along with our article about St. Patrick. And don't forget to get a copy of The Emerald Isle, one of the titles in our exclusive Culinary Collection.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Food Fare's latest release is the Furry Friends Cookbook, the sixth title in our growing collection of digital cookbooks.
The Furry Friends Cookbook contains more than sixty original recipes for homemade dog and cat food, including main meals, treats, biscuits and kibble.
Aside from adding new Recipes or showcasing seasonal books from the Culinary Collection, updates will be scarce at Food Fare for the remainder of 2013.
Because of my writing schedule outside the realm of food, I won't be able to devote much time to anything else for the next several months. I have three fiction novels scheduled for release this year (The Twilight, Megan's Legacy and Bloodlust written under my fiction pseudonym Deidre Dalton), so needless to say my future days and nights will be very busy indeed.

Happy Cooking from Food Fare,
