Iced Tea
1 C sugar
1/2 gallon water
1 tray of ice cubes
3 family-size orange pekoe teabags (Lipton, Luzianne or generic brand)
3 C cold water (add more if necessary)
Pour sugar into a large pitcher. Bring water to a boil in a large cooking pot. Add tea bags just as water begins to boil; remove from heat. Let steep for about five or six minutes. Remove tea bags, and return tea to heat. Bring just to a boil again, and then pour into the pitcher. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Add ice to pitcher; stir until most of the ice melts. Fill pitcher with cold water; stir until blended.
Variations: Omit sugar if plain tea is desired. For Lemon Iced Tea, prepare recipe above but add 1/2 C of lemon juice to the mixture.
