Avocado Condiment
Posted Thu, 11/03/05
I prepared mushroom-Swiss burgers for lunch today, with guacamole as a condiment. I used a jumbo avocado from Brooks Tropicals, who claims their Slim-Cado has 35% fewer calories and 60% less fat than an average avocado.
Brooks Tropicals markets its avocados through an innovative concept. While the most common avocado consumed in the U.S. is the Hass avocado, Brooks Tropicals grows and packs a range of avocado varieties called Slim-Cados, which share one common characteristic: they have up to half the fat and a third fewer calories than the leading California avocado. Description: Generally pear-shaped with smooth or bumpy green skin, the Slim-Cado varies in shape and in size from three to thirteen inches long and up to five inches wide.
I didn't notice an absence of taste. In fact, the Slim-Cado has a rich flavor that went very well on a hamburger bun.
Brooks Tropicals also has a selection of recipes for use with their products. They are worth checking out.
