Breakfast Pinwheels

Another recipe from Loretta Lynn's You're Cookin' It Country:
Sausage Pinwheels
1 LB sausage
8 ounces cream cheese
2 (8-count) cans crescent rolls
In a skillet, fry the sausage over medium heat until thoroughly cooked. Cool the meat and then chop fine. In a large bowl, combine the cream cheese and sausage. Unroll the dough and press the perforations together to form a rectangle. Spread the sausage mixture over the dough. Roll up tightly and wrap the mixture in plastic wrap. Chill for one hour. Preheat oven to 350-degrees F. Remove the plastic wrap and slice the roll-up into 1" slices. Arrange the slices on a baking sheet and bake for ten to twelve minutes.
I used 1-1/2 pounds of sausage and two (8 ounce) packages of cream cheese. I did not chill the mixture because it was already stiff enough, and rather than slice into individual pieces I left the dough intact while baking.
Sausage Pinwheels fall under the "Breakfast" category in Loretta Lynn's book, although I think they would make an excellent appetizer as well.
