Taco Truck

Wilbert and I decided to try the "Taco Truck" near our house for lunch today. I realize it sounds shoddy and a bit suspicious, and under normal circumstances it just might be. For the last year Wilbert and I have noticed a large food truck located in the parking lot of the Baptist Church near our house, but we've never tried it for the simple reason it's normal to assume such an establishment might be unclean, fly-by-night or underhanded.

Taco Truck (Spokane, WA)

All of my illusions were completely shattered. The food truck was actually rather large, parked by the back door of the respectable church (although not of my denomination) in an area covered by canvas with tables and chairs. The food truck were amazingly clean and tidy. Since we had Foofer in the van, we opted to order our food and take it home. We perused the chalkboard menu carefully, choosing two tacos and one tamale each. We gave our selection to the nice gentleman high up in the window, and waited a scant ten minutes before our order was ready.

There were plenty of other people placing orders and sitting at the tables, from all walks of life. I saw a woman in a power suit, two teenaged boys, a family of five, a lone man arriving in a Cadillac and a mother with her two children. Observing people, situations and details is an occupational hazard for me.

Once we got the food home and started to dig in, Wilbert and I were happily surprised by the quality and taste of the eats. The tamales were homemade, moist and packed full of tender pork. The tacos, while small, were prepared using soft flour tortillas and filled with Serrano pepper bits and sauce, onions, lettuce, tomatoes and cubed beef steak. There was no trace of meat-grease in any of the food - better yet. The meal was truly wonderful, and all for only ten dollars.

Even Foofer begged for meat from the tamales, giving the food his own seal of approval, and he's one picky canine.

Thankfully the "Taco Truck" is less than a block of away from our house. I think we'll be having lunch there with increasing frequency from now on.
