Class Notes: Distinctive Papers

Classic Book Review: Shogun

"Shogun" by James Clavell. Published 1975; ISBN: 0-440-17800-2.

Review written by Deborah O'Toole includes information about the author, where to find copies of the book, story backgrounds, front and/or back cover blurbs and facsimiles of original cover art.

Sample from the review: James Clavell had the unfettered talent for writing in great detail without becoming redundant and boring. I have always admired this about him. While some may argue which of his books were the best (there are several to choose from, among them "King Rat," which was made into a movie), I still rank "Shogun" as his best work. The novel was made into a TV mini-series in the 1980's starring Richard Chamberlain, and while this was a brilliant display of the book, it still did not have the great detail of the complete story.
