Class Notes: Distinctive Papers

Classic Book Review: The Hobbit

"The Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien. Published 1937; ISBN: 0-345-27257-9.

Review written by Deborah O'Toole includes information about the author, where to find copies of the book, story backgrounds, front and/or back cover blurbs and facsimiles of original cover art.

Sample from the review: "The Hobbit" (or "There and Back Again") by J.R.R. Tolkien is one of those out-of-the-ordinary books that only come around once in a lifetime. From all my memories of various books through the years, from varying authors that I love in all sorts of genres, none have come close to the brilliance and writing skill of Tolkien. The man must have had one of the most fertile and ingenious minds of the previous several hundred years to achieve the perfection he attained in "The Hobbit."
