Fast Food Racket

Posted 04/17/06

Many moons ago I mentioned how disgusted I was with fast-food joints passing off their "salads" for exorbitant prices. At the time, I sampled salads from all of the well-known restaurants such as McDonalds, Dairy Queen, Wendy's, Subway, Jack-in-the-Box, et al. Each one had excessive lettuce fillers with little substance.

Now the cheapness has seeped into the regular menu at McDonalds (and other fast-food places, I'm sure). Yesterday I had a fish sandwich from McDonalds. It resembled a little "kiddie burger," with a price tag of $2.29. My husband could eat four of them and still be hungry.

Why do prices keep rising as product size diminishes? The "fuel and product transport costs" excuse can only go so far. I'm sick of the fast-food racket. We all have to eke out a living, but why do consumer products have to be slammed with disproportionate and insulting prices by vast multinational conglomerates?

The "cutesy" fast-food television commercials are a joke. The big chains care nothing at all for the consumer. For the most part, all of them are looking for ways to downsize product and rake their customers over the financial coals.

Is there one fast-food eatery out there that offers the public their money's worth?

I doubt it.
