Somali Coconut Squares

Bring milk and sugar to a boil in a pan over medium-high heat, stirring constantly. Once mixture comes to a boil, reduce heat and continue cooking for about fifteen minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in cardamom and coconut flakes. Continue cooking, stirring constantly, until all liquid has been absorbed. Reduce heat to low and simmer gently for about five minutes. Pour mixture into a greased pan. Smooth top with the back off the spoon; then press down to pack tightly. Allow to cool, and then refrigerate for about one hour or until set. Cut into squares and serve.
