In a bowl, stir together all the dry ingredients; mix gently by hand. Make a hollow in the center of the dough ball; add enough buttermilk to make the dough soft. Turn onto a floured board and knead lightly until the dough no longer has cracks. Roll out 1/2" thick and cut into rounds (use a pastry cutter or the floured rim of a glass). Place on a greased cookie sheet; bake at 200-degrees F for fifteen minutes. Serve warm with butter or fruit preserves.
