Beverages > New Years Eve > Ireland > Irish Coffee >
1 jigger Irish whiskey
Coffee
Heavy cream
1 TBS brown sugar
Pre-heat a coffee mug by filling it with hot water, and then empty. Pour hot coffee into the warmed mug, until it is about 3/4 of the way full. Add the brown sugar; stir until dissolved. Blend in Irish whiskey, and gently dollop with slightly whipped heavy cream by pouring gently over a spoon. Drink hot.
History Note: It is said that Irish Coffee was invented by a bartender named Joe Sheridan, who worked at Shannon Airport in Ireland. Patrons asked for a "heart warmer" in cold weather, so Joe presented them with a mug of hot coffee blended with Irish whiskey and topped with a dollop of cool cream. In 1952, a travel writer discovered the beverage and brought it back to America.
