Christmas Dinner 2005

Posted Thu, 12/29/05

We had a marvelous Christmas, and an unusual holiday dinner: corned beef, mashed potatoes, baby carrots in a white pepper sauce and green beans. At the last minute I realized we hadn't purchased a pie for dessert, so hoping against hope I picked up a frozen pie made by Mrs. Smith's.

I chose the spicy pumpkin pie, not really expecting great bits of taste from a frozen concoction. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the pie. It is basically frozen uncooked, so it takes about an hour-and-a-half to bake. It turned out rather well, almost the same as a pie made at home. Because the quality was so good, I may try other Mrs. Smith products in the future.

As for New Years Eve, I have no plans. Wilbert has to work, so I might make an early night of it and snuggle in bed with my pooches. I have somewhat fleeting thoughts of preparing baked chicken and a big pot of dumplings, but other than that my celebration will be very low-key.

Years ago I used to take in the New Year with great panache, but being older and wiser I prefer the quietness and safety of home.

Happy New Year to one and all . . .
