According to Bon Appétit Magazine (via link from Shelf Awareness), the seven best culinary bookstores in America include:

 

  • Amber Unicorn (Las Vegas, Nevada): Said to have more than 16,000 cookbooks, with titles such as The Duchess of Duke Street Entertains, a guide to entertaining in Edwardian England, and a first-edition copy of The Brazilian Cookbook (1963).

  • Bonnie Slotnick Cookbooks (New York City): Offers more than 4,000 titles, including cookbooks and guides on etiquette and cocktail craft.

  • Heirloom Book Company (Charleston, SC): The Bon Appétit article describes the store as being well-known for "an eclectic collection of cookbooks, antique kitchen tools, and heirloom seeds as it is for its Sunday Suppers, which feature guest chefs and authors." A sampling includes How-Not-to-Miss-the-Cocktail-Hour Cookbook (1971).

  • Kitchen Arts & Letters (New York City): Contains classics, literary volumes and out-of-print titles.

  • Kitchen Witch Cookbooks (New Orleans): Offers junior league digests, books by Paul Prudhomme and Real Cajun by Donald Link.

  • Omnivore Books on Food (San Francisco): Sells classics and new books such as the Silver Jubilee Cook Book (1928) and D.I.Y. Delicious Ideas in Food.

  • Rabelais (Portland, Maine): Described as offering cookbooks "old, new, rare and commonplace," a few of the titles include The Kitchen Directory & American Housewife (1841) and Eleven Madison Park: The Cookbook.
