Skull & CrossbonesHere's another treat to add to the Halloween recipe list:

Skull & Crossbones

1 pkg. (21.5 oz.) brownie mix (plus ingredients to prepare mix)

1 egg white

1/8 tsp. almond extract

1/4 C sugar

Red & black decorator gels

1 container (16 oz.) prepared chocolate frosting

Parchment paper

Pastry bag with medium writing tip

Prepare and bake brownies in a 13x9-inch baking pan according to package directions. Preheat the oven to 250-degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Beat the egg white in a large bowl until foamy. Add the almond extract; beat until soft peaks form. Gradually add the sugar; beat until soft peaks form again. Fill the pastry bag with the egg white mixture. Pipe twenty-four skull and crossbones shapes onto prepared baking sheet. Bake for about twelve minutes, or until set. Cool the pan on wire racks. Carefully remove meringues from the parchment paper. Decorate with red gel for eyes and black gel for mouths. Frost the brownies and cut into twenty-four rectangles. Place one meringue on each brownie. Recipe makes about two dozen brownies.

The decorator gels and parchment paper can be found in the baking supplies aisle of your local grocery store.
