Seasonal Foodstuff

Autumn always brings around the best in foodstuff. I happen to think so, at least.

October is Vegetarian Awareness Month, not to mention Halloween goodies being just around the corner.

From the World Vegetarian web site:

World Vegetarian Day (October 1st) is also the annual kick-off of Vegetarian Awareness Month. Make a difference by informing others about the benefits of vegetarianism. You will be helping to create a better world because vegetarian diets have proven health benefits, save animals' lives and help to preserve the Earth.

Food Fare has a page chock-full of Vegetarian Recipes as well. My faves among the lot are Cashews & Vegetables and Wild Rice Salad with Pecans.

And what can I say about Halloween? It's absolutely my favorite time of year. It's not just about ghouls and goblins for me, it's the cooler weather and the changing colors of the season.

This year, we not only have a large selection of Halloween Recipes to choose from, but an informative e-book about the "holiday" to boot:

Food Fare Culinary Collection: Halloween Cuisine

Try this deliciously-easy witchy beverage:

Witches Brew

2 C apple cider

1-1/2 to 2 C vanilla ice cream

2 TBS honey

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Cinnamon sticks

Process cider, ice cream, honey, cinnamon and nutmeg in a food processor or blender until mixture is smooth. Pour into glasses and sprinkle with additional nutmeg; place a cinnamon stick in each glass. Serve at once.

Happy Cooking (and eating)!
