Spice Shopping

Wilbert and I often have our eyes peeled for spice sales, and we're always up for trying something new. This morning we went over the Russian market by our house. I call it the Russian market only because it is frequented by a large populace of Russian immigrants; the real name of the store is the Bargain Giant. Anyway, the store is old-fashioned and small, with an on-site butcher and bakery. The spice racks are in the rear of the store and contain name-brand spices as well as non-descript types. Today, Gel Spice varieties were on sale for .99 cents a piece (each plastic bottle holds three ounces).
We snapped up Almond Extract, Allspice, Bay Leaves, Cajun Spice, Stick Cinnamon, Creole Seasoning, Dill Seeds, Lemon Pepper, Marjoram Leaves, Oriental Five Spices, Popcorn Salt, Pumpkin Pie Spice, Sage, and Thyme Leaves. All for a whopping $13.86.
We tend to browse every time we go to the Russian store as well. Wilbert ended up getting three pounds of Daily's bacon pieces (his preference to actual rashers) for a mere $3.89. The bacon originates from Missoula, Montana. It is a popular brand in the Inland Northwest.
Naturally I picked up a goody for myself: a bag of Parmesan-Garlic chips from the local producer, Tim's Chips. The treats are homemade; they retain a thickly crisp texture with strong potato flavor.
