Breakfast at IHOP
Posted Fri, 07/18/03
Wilbert and I breakfasted at IHOP (International House of Pancakes) this morning, meeting his co-workers just after their night shift ended. Luckily for us, the restaurant is only a few miles from our house. Because we went so early, there wasn't a large crowd gathered inside the eatery and our party of eight was seated quite comfortably. The branch of IHOP is rather small to begin with, so I can't imagine what it's like during peak hours.
Wilbert opted for the advertised special (red, white and blue pancakes), which consisted of a stack of flapjacks striped with a row each of strawberries, whipped cream and blueberry preserves. Wilbert also ordered a side of bacon to take home for Foofer. I had the Pecan Waffle. It was scrumptious: finely chopped pecans were scattered across a large expanse of waffle with a choice of more than eight syrups. While I thoroughly enjoyed the waffle (which came solo with no sides), I was a bit aghast by the price of $6.99 for a single waffle. Granted, the waffle was large, but for the same amount of money I could have gotten a full-range breakfast instead.
However, the company was delightful as usual and Wilbert enjoyed his meal. I did, too (despite the price), and wouldn't mind going to IHOP again in the near future.
