Grocery Phobia

I despise grocery shopping for the most part, but if Wilbert and I go early in the morning I can usually tolerate it. Last Saturday, we hit our local grocery as soon as the doors opened at seven a.m. and went about our business. It's not so much the shopping as it is the crowds that bother me. Luckily we were one of the few folks wandering the aisles that early in the morning.

Shopping with my husband is like displaying flip sides of a coin. In a typical household, the woman loves to gad about and buy items, while the man hangs back. In our case, just the opposite is true. Wilbert is always searching for bargains and clipping coupons. When he sees a sale on something he likes, he grabs six instead of one.

Our pantry shelves are literally bowing with the weight of canned goods, cereals, dog food, oils, salad dressings, cooking spices, bottled water, condiments and soda. This multiple shopping also includes other items such as Kleenex, toilet paper, toothpaste, laundry detergent and other personal sundry.

I'm definitely not complaining. If it were left up to me, we'd grab what we need in the store and run out. Very often Wilbert will shop on his own because he knows if I go, I'll hurry him along. When he's alone, he comes home laden with packages and much lighter of wallet.
