Summer Vacation Food
Posted Mon, 06/25/07
Mum and Dad came for a week-long visit from June 12-18. We always try to have a variety of food, although I still can't quite get into the swing of breakfast unless it's a special occasion.
Here are some of the goodies we had on the table:
-
Tuesday, 06/12/07: Beef stew and dumplings (crock-pot style).
-
Wednesday, 06/13/07: Bacon cheeseburger and Root Beer Float from Sonic Drive-In.
-
Thursday, 06/14/07: Pastrami sandwich and Habitant Pea Soup.
-
Friday, 06/15/07: Tacos from Jack-in-the-Box (my Dad has a special fondness for these; unfortunately there are no Jack-in-the Box franchises near his home).
-
Saturday, 06/16/07: Grilled chicken (outdoors), and Grilled Potatoes Labrecque.
-
Sunday, 06/17/07: Homemade sourdough hotcakes, link sausages, and chicken salad (Dad wanted sourdough on Father's Day, so I made them using the starter he gave me several years ago and which I still process every two weeks).
-
Monday, 06/18/07: Baked Polluck with toasted slivered almonds, rice pilaf, lemon cheesecake, and Dominos Pizza.
Of course family visits are not all about food. I love it when Mum and Dad come to our house. I just wish the stays could last longer, and I also wish we lived closer. As it is, we are separated by hundreds of miles and the drive is a long haul. I'm hoping this year we can return the favor and make the trip to see them, but time and other events will tell.
