Subway Salad
Posted 05/01/04
This afternoon my husband and I went to Subway for lunch, where I decided to try their relatively new salad meal.
In the past, I've been doomed to disappointment when salad fixings at fast food joints such as McDonalds, Wendy's, Jack-in-the-Box and Dairy Queen were unsatisfactory. For the most part, the "meals" are nothing but high-priced lettuce-filler with very little else worth eating. Frankly, I could throw together a bowl of lettuce at home for a quarter of the price fast-food restaurants charge.
Subway's salad was a bit better, but not by much. I ordered the Grilled Chicken & Baby Spinach meal. I was not overly surprised to see the skimpy quantity of meat and some of the other included ingredients: garlic-toasted almonds and bacon. The salad cost $5.39. If the price tag is not a rip-off, I don't know what is.
I live and learn: never order a "specialty" salad from an eatery of "convenience" again, no matter what the falsely advertised images depict.
