Albertson's Misbehaves
Posted Mon, 04/12/04
During the many years I lived in Utah and Idaho, Albertsons was quite popular (although I never cared for the place).
I always found their prices to be outrageous, unless the store condescended to have a "special" two-for-one sale. A few months ago, a new Albertsons store was constructed near our home but I avoided the place like the plague. Where I live, there are several other options (Safeway, Fred Meyer, Tidyman's, Rosauers and Yokes), so I didn't feel the need to rush over to the new Albertsons.
Yesterday we finally went to the store, only because I wanted a simple package of pork chops and thought to compare Albertsons prices to other stores in the area.
Holy Moses! One package of four small boneless pork chops (one pound or just under), came with a price tag of $9.18. The same package at our usual haunt Fred Meyer would sell for around $6.49, or less. The four little pork chops would make a midnight snack in Wilbert's eyes. The man can sit down and have six eggs for breakfast, along with bacon and four pieces of toast and feel "just right."
We looked around the store a bit more, but the price structure seemed to be consistent. Overcharging people must be a corporate directive. My first visit to the local Albertsons was also my last.
