Weekend Scraps

I've been living off of cereal, soups and one take-out meal from Kyoto over the last week because of my writing schedule.
Wilbert has been doing much the same, grumbling under his breath on occasion. Since the computer room is right next to the kitchen, I often overheard his side-of-the-mouth remarks: "I'm starving" or "Isn't there anything to eat in this house?" and "I'll just eat a piece of toast and go to bed." This despite the stockpile of canned and packaged goods we have in our backroom.
Yesterday I forced myself to shut off the computer to prepare a late lunch. I seasoned two chicken breasts with white pepper, paprika, garlic salt and parsley, after which I sautéed the meat in a bit of olive oil. I cooked the chicken on low setting in my electric skillet for about forty minutes, and then added a small jar of button mushrooms and a can of condensed cream of mushroom soup. I also prepared three half-bags of frozen mixed vegetables and Velveeta Cheesy Mashed Potatoes as side dishes.
Wilbert ate the meal hungrily, happy as a clam and thanking me profusely. Today I took the leftover mixed vegetables and tossed them with teriyaki-flavored Ramen noodles for lunch. That was the extent of my weekend forays into the kitchen, and now I'm back at the computer keyboard.
Tomorrow is our wedding anniversary. As planned, we're dining at Shogun Restaurant. I can hardly wait.
