Last Year's Grub

Food on the table for New Years Eve included take-out from a nearby Chinese restaurant. We ate steamed dumplings (Gyoza in other words), egg rolls, chop suey, sweet and sour chicken, chicken and cashews, and ham fired rice.
Some years I like to get busy and make something special for the last night of the year – as in the past with homemade tamales or tempura – but this year it was a nice, relaxed affair without any fuss.
