National Pasta Month

Posted Tue, 10/11/11

October is National Pasta Month. In a survey undertaken by the National Pasta Association, people eat pasta twice a week. In essence, the average American consumes about twenty pounds of pasta per year. That's a lot of linguine!

On that note, Food Fare has quite a nice selection of Pasta Recipes for your cooking and eating pleasure...

I don't know anyone who dislikes pasta. There are so many ways to eat and enjoy noodles, even without heavy sauces. For instance, I'm not overly fond of tomato sauces. I prefer cream sauces, or pasta lightly seasoned with olive oil, parmesan cheese and various fresh herbs.

However, one can always toss pasta with vegetables, meats, seafood and other goodies. Some of my favorite ways to eat pasta are ridiculously simple: angel hair or seashells tossed with butter, or angel hair with plain meatballs and sprinkled with parmesan cheese. Another simple dish to prepare is my own concoction Shrimp & Shells.

According to Food Reference, October also celebrates other foods and their related events: Cook Book Month, Gourmet Adventures Month, National Apple Month, National Chili Month, National Cookie Month, National Pickled Peppers Month, National Pretzel Month, Vegetarian Awareness Month and more.

The National Pasta Association has kicked off Pasta Fits, a campaign to bring awareness to "pasta as part of a nutritious diet."

Using scientific research that supports the benefits of diets that include carbohydrates such as pasta for weight control, NPA's new "Pasta Fits" program will educate consumers about why pasta and other carbs are vital to a healthy lifestyle. Pasta boosts energy, satisfies hunger, tastes great and can be prepared in countless delicious, low-calorie recipes. In addition, it is one of the most economical meals available to American consumers.

Whatever the promotional data, enjoy your pasta - anytime of year!
