Spewing Ice Cream

Posted Mon, 07/28/03

Since we didn't finish cleaning the kitchen until eight-thirty last night, the only energy I had left was devoted to splaying out on the bed and staring at the television. Dinner actually went very smooth, but there were two mishaps which I credit to my lifelong affliction of clumsiness.

While I was trying to use a spatula to place the hot stuffed mushrooms on the nicely etched platter, three of them slid off and fell face down on the table. Considering the mushrooms were topped with tomato sauce, this created a bit of a mess but was easily cleaned.

Later, after dinner, I went into the freezer to grab the ice cream and discovered the tub had somehow tipped to it's side, and a white mass of Tillamook Vanilla Bean ice cream was oozing down into the freezer tray. Since I was holding the freezer door open, the ice cream dropped like globs of mud onto the floor.

All in all the evening went well, however. All of the dishes we prepared were marvelous, and Wilbert talked about it for the rest of the night. Since I don't know how to cook for just a few people, we have enough leftovers for at least three days.

The company was the best, though – my cousin Sheila and her husband Joe. They had spent most of the day in the seething heat pulling in hay on their ranch before coming to dinner. We all had a very enjoyable time, and a memorable dinner.
