Almond Accents

For weeks I've been contemplating purchasing a bag of Almond Accents. The only thing stopping me was the price. Almond Accents are pre-packaged flavored, sliced almonds made by Sunkist. They are used for toppings on salads, stir-fry, vegetables and rice dishes. They come in several different flavors (Original Oven-Roasted, Bacon Cheddar, Italian Parmesan, Ranch Style, Roasted Garlic Caesar and Honey Roasted). A six ounce bag costs approximately $4.50, which I consider a complete rip-off. Even with money in hand, my parsimonious nature will not allow me to purchase it.

Wilbert and I did our grocery shopping this morning. Lo and behold, Almond Accents were on sale (buy one, get one free). I can accept $2 per bag, so I bought the Original Oven Roasted and Roasted Garlic Caesar flavors. I'm a salad-hound, and I love nuts on food (particularly when added to salads and chicken dishes), so I was anticipating really good eats for lunch.

And I wasn't disappointed. Almond Accents are divine. My first try was the Original Oven Roasted flavor. Using romaine lettuce, I arranged a bowlful of sliced radishes, paper-thin julienne carrots, green onions (with the greens), a sliced hard-cooked egg, cubed pieces of mozzarella and cheddar cheeses, and a big handful of Almond Accents. All of which was topped with Kraft's Creamy Poppyseed Dressing.

I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. I was completely satisfied with the entire salad, which was like a meal in itself. Now that I 'm hooked, I will probably be grabbing up more bags of Almond Accents. It was the purpose of the sale, more than likely.
