Khvorost ("Twigs")

Fried Russian Sugar Cookies

In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar and salt. Add milk, sour cream, vodka and beaten eggs. Stir until the mixture is smooth. Roll out thin, and then cut into strips (4" long, 1" wide). Slit the center of each strip and push one end of the pastry through, or make rings with a pastry cutter and twist the dough into shapes. Fry the dough twists in hot oil until golden. Drain on paper towels or greaseproof paper; sprinkle with powdered sugar.
