Rainy Days & Gingered Tea

Posted Sun, 09/07/03

Try this on a rainy (or snowy) day, courtesy of Reminisce Magazine:

Gingered Tea

1 C water

2 tsp. honey

3/4 C ground ginger

3 individual tea bags

3/4 C milk

In a small saucepan, bring water to a boil. Add honey and ginger. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for ten minutes. Remove fro the heat; add the tea bags. Cover and steep for five to seven minutes. Discard the tea bags. Stir in the milk; heat through (do not boil). Yield: two servings.

I'd eliminate the honey (I'm allergic to it), but the drink sounds soothing for an inclement day. With the weather heading in that direction now that September is in full swing, I'm hoping to give the beverage a whirl in short order.

*POSTSCRIPT Tuesday, 09/09/03: We had a steady downpour yesterday, which gave me the opportunity and/or excuse to make a batch of "Gingered Tea." Instead of using honey, I substituted the same equivalent measure of brown sugar. The recipe posted yesterday makes enough for one mug, but I made the mistake of adding an extra pinch of ginger (making the drink a bit snappy). However, it was definitely delicious, and the perfect remedy for a rainy day.
