B-Day Goodies

Posted Mon, 08/30/10

I spent my birthday yesterday doing things that made me happy, which included writing and reading, playing computer games, watching a marathon of Law & Order SVU and generally relaxing.

For lunch, I made a pastrami sandwich on a fresh hoagie roll. The bread was fresh, crusty on the outside and soft on the inside. I split open the small roll and placed thin slices of pastrami and provolone cheese atop spicy brown mustard, and then added lots of sliced onion. I heated the sandwich in the microwave just long enough to soften the cheese, and then topped it with shredded lettuce, a drizzle of olive oil, a few drops of red wine vinegar, and salt and black pepper. It was wonderful, but I couldn't eat it all in one go. I consumed half and ate the other half later in the afternoon.

For dinner, I put together a simple dish of angel hair pasta tossed with steamed broccoli florets, parmesan cheese, a dab of butter, and salt and black pepper.

There was no cake or other birthday trappings as I'm not overly fond of sweets.

All in all, a very nice day in my own way.
