Bertolli Nada

The other day, I tried Bertolli's shrimp, asparagus and penne as part of their self-named classic meals for two. I'm here to tell you not to waste your money by doing the same. The one-pound (24 oz.) bag cost me $7, a purchase I put off for a long while because I thought it extravagant. I should have followed my instincts.

I have no complaints about the taste of the meal because it was delicious. However, the quantity of ingredients is another matter entirely. There were only eight pieces of shrimp and asparagus contained in the meal. The shrimp was the size of a quarter coin, while the asparagus was cut short and entailed the toughest part of the vegetable. There was a ton of penne pasta, naturally, because it's the cheapest of ingredients. I can buy a bag of penne for under $1.00, so I know Bertolli didn't lose a dime on their excuse for a "classic" meal. I would have been better off buying my own pasta and creating my own meal.

In a nutshell, I won't buy Bertolli products again. I was highly disappointed in their food, and their lack of customer service (an e-mail I sent to them went unacknowledged and unanswered). I expected better of them. It kind of reminds me of the downhill slide of Omaha Steaks, a recent shipment of which was of lesser quality than that found at the local grocery store at exorbitant prices.

We live and learn, even in the kitchen...
