Bubbly Brunch

Yesterday was rather lazy in respect to relaxation (I was glued to the Monk marathon), but Wilbert and I gathered in the kitchen around "brunch time" to prepare homemade sourdough hotcakes, hash browns and link sausages.

The sourdough starter has been in my family for more than thirty years, if not longer. It began with my uncle Mike O'Toole, who gave a batch to my father. Last year Dad gave me a glass crock full of the starter, and I've been processing it ever since. I fiddle with the dough every two weeks, and make actual hotcakes every third or fourth process.

It still does my heart good to see the batter bubbling even before I add baking powder, just prior to cooking hotcakes on the griddle. I should point out I process the sourdough and create the batter, while my husband does the cooking thereof. He's simply better at it than I am.

Today was a fast food quickie at Taco Bell. It was good, but hardly worth writing about and almost as instantly forgettable.
