Fast Food Taco Salads

I love taco salads. I learned how to make my own a long time ago, but still like to buy the fast food variety on occasion.

For years, I was satisfied with the taco salads from Arctic Circle. They were large and tasty for the most part, with several flavors to choose from (beef, grilled chicken, crispy chicken and southwestern chicken). However, over the past year the quality has gone downhill while the prices went up. Now there seems to be more filler (cheap lettuce) than meaty substance, and the sides (sour cream and guacamole) have gotten smaller. When the price increased to $5.99, I began looking elsewhere.

The other day, I tried a taco salad from Del Taco. They only have two choices (beef and chicken), but the prices were more reasonable. I chose the chicken taco salad ($4.49), and was pleasantly surprised.

The portion size was perfect for one person, just a tad smaller than the salads offered at Arctic Circle. There wasn't a lot of filler in the Del Taco version, and the quantity of tender chicken bites was more than generous. I ate every last morsel, but didn't feel stuffed.

Needless to say, I highly recommend the taco salads at Del Taco.
