Dose of Hawaiian

I tasted Hawaiian sweet bread for the first time yesterday. I'm not sure what to think of it. The bread comes in round loaves with a faint hint of pineapple sweetening. The only problem is what to eat with it – should it be buttered, dipped in gravy or included with a meal? Or simply eaten as is?

According to the package information – from King's Hawaiian – the bread can be used to make Monte Cristo Sandwiches, or prepared as French toast.

And what about making the bread from scratch? I found the following at All Recipes:

Hawaiian Sweet Bread

1 C warm water

5 TBS white sugar

3 C all-purpose flour

3/4 tsp. salt

2 TBS dry milk powder

2 TBS dry potato flakes

1 TBS active dry yeast

1/4 tsp. vanilla extract

1/4 tsp. lemon extract

2 eggs

4 TBS margarine

Measure ingredients into the bread machine in the order suggested by the manufacturer. Set machine for dough. Place dough in a 9x5 inch loaf pan. Allow to rise until doubled. Bake in a preheated 350-degree F oven for about thirty minutes. Crust should be golden and bread should sound hollow when thumped.

Sounds delicious.
