Vanilla Sauce for Smulpaj
1/2 C sugar
1 TBS cornstarch
1 C water
2 TBS butter
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Pinch of ground nutmeg
In a bowl, combine sugar and cornstarch; add water and butter. Cook mixture in double boiler for about twenty minutes, stirring frequently until smooth and thickened. Add vanilla extract and nutmeg; stir.
Note: Vaniljsas is typically served with Smulpaj (Swedish Crumb Pie).
