Canine Recipes from Food FareBeef Jerky Meatballs

Cook the brown rice according to package directions. Cool and place in a large mixing bowl. Then add the lean ground beef, saltine cracker crumbs, crushed vitamin and eggs. Mix well. If mixture seems dry, add a bit of milk until there is a firm, but not wet, consistency. On a cutting board, slice the strips of beef jerky in half, and then in half again. Mix into the ground beef mixture, stirring well. Shape into walnut-sized balls, and place in a food steamer. If you don't have a steamer, bake the meatballs at 350-degrees F. Cook the meatballs until they are no longer pink, and the meat is tender. Drain excess fat. Cool before serving.

Note: The meatballs will keep in the refrigerator for up to a week, and can also be used minced and mixed into regular dog food at meal times.

Recommended: Add multi-purpose canine vitamins in the preparation of this dish to provide optimum nutrition for your dog (s). Use a mortar and pestle to crush the vitamins into a fine powder, and then mix well with the other ingredients.

Back Story: My pooch Foofer used to love beef jerky (especially teriyaki-flavored), so I invented this little treat for him. He used to sniff-out beef jerky even when I was in another part of the house, being quiet as a mouse. I tried to sneak beef jerky on occasion, but before I knew it there was Foofer coming up on me, very stealthy as his eyes lit on the "prize."
