Apple Pie
6 C apples, peeled, cored & thinly sliced
1/2 C white sugar
1/4 C brown sugar, packed
1 TBS butter
1 tsp. cinnamon
Dash nutmeg
Preheat oven to 450-degrees F. Place one pastry pie crust on bottom of a glass pie plate. In a bowl, combine sugars and cinnamon. Arrange sliced apples in layers in pastry-lined pie plate. Sprinkle each layer with sugar, cinnamon and a dash of nutmeg. Dot the top layer with pieces of butter. Cover with top crust. Bake for ten minutes, and then reduce oven temperature to 350-degrees F. Bake for thirty to thirty-five minutes longer. Serve warm or cold.
Note: To prepare homemade pastry, try Food Fare's Pastry Pie Crust. If you want to make Apple Pie completely from scratch, forego the spices and assemble your own Apple Pie Spice Mix.
Suggestion: Serve warm pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
